In Luxembourg on June 2023, Sigma Air Mobility, a Luxaviation Group company and a major global operator of aircraft and helicopters, announces a partnership with Nordic eVTOL Networks, the leading developer of vertiports in Scandinavia. Both partners expect to receive their first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) and electric conventional take-off and landing (eCTOL) aircraft upon projected certification starting from 2025.
The collaboration aims to transition towards sustainable air transport and introduce decarbonized air mobility to Scandinavia. Sigma and Nordic eVTOL Networks (NEN) will develop air operations and infrastructures to provide comprehensive solutions. Together, Sigma and NEN are committed to early adoption of Advanced Air Mobility across Northern Europe, leading in sustainability.
Sigma and Nordic eVTOL Networks Leading Innovation
Embracing advanced air mobility, Sigma has assembled entire ecosystem solutions and will support air operations across the NEN network. Moreover, Sigma, with its global presence and extensive operational experience, implements effective measures to achieve net-zero targets in the wider air transport industry.
Conversely, NEN has secured agreements with key locations, municipalities, and sub-regional and regional mobility requirements. Additionally, NEN will own and operate infrastructure and orchestrate partners to ensure end-to-end services.
As the market and its manufacturers are well advanced and investments increase, NEN is projected to lead innovation across the region by 2030. This is driven by optimized operations, vehicle selection for passenger and cargo services, and local operational concepts.
Both partners will leverage the upcoming Paris AirShow 2023 to align with potential partners across OEMs and the broader ecosystem.
Christophe Lapierre, CEO of Sigma Air Mobility, says: “Luxaviation Group has been present for more than 20 years in Scandinavia. The cooperation between Sigma Air Mobility’s expertise and operating system, and a local expert partner like NEN, paves the way for market-centric successful deployment.'”
Patrick Hansen, CEO of Luxaviation Group, adds: ‘This collaboration shows our commitment to sustainability. Our comprehensive approach explores and implements all technologies and business models to reduce our environmental footprint while expanding our services.’
Sigurd von Bülow, CEO of Nordic eVTOL Networks, comments: ‘We wanted to work with a trusted company that shares our values and understands our operations. Additionally, Sigma Air Mobility, with its global presence, is the perfect partner to introduce eVTOL technology to our market and leverage its emerging opportunities.’
Our team is as convinced as I am that our collaboration with Sigma Air Mobility will advance Air Mobility. Our region is quickly adopting this technology, and we will contribute to its growth.
First Commercial Flight
The first commercial flight is anticipated around 2025-2026, coinciding with the initial vehicle certification. A defined set of milestones and key activities will ensure a successful launch.
