In Paris on December 15, 2021, EDEIS, a leader in airport management in France, and Luxaviation, a major private aircraft operator, have teamed up. They aim to create a more sustainable and decarbonised approach to business aviation and regional mobility. Both companies believe Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is crucial for regional airports and cities. Regional routes will be the first to benefit from future developments in this area.
Luxaviation and EDEIS will combine their expertise, commercial networks, engineering experience, and regulatory insights. They aim to enhance existing facilities and launch decarbonised aviation services across their networks.
Expanding Sustainable Business Aviation
Electrification and long-term facility planning for eVTOL (electric takeoff and landing), eCTOL (electric conventional takeoff and landing), and hybrid propulsion aircraft have begun. Specific pilot projects will be announced in 2022. Earlier this year, Luxaviation took its first step towards AAM by signing an agreement with Lilium. Meanwhile, EDEIS participated in a roadshow with Voltaero’s hybrid propulsion aircraft in Q2 2021.
The seven-year cooperation agreement, starting with joint operations at 16 FBOs (Fixed-Base Operators), marks the beginning of AAM deployment across EDEIS’s regional airport network. This combined network is crucial for regional travel across France and is set to expand in locations and traffic. The partnership leverages EDEIS’s and Luxaviation’s networks, drawing on their international and local customer base and bespoke services. EDEIS’s 16 locations in France will merge with Luxaviation’s network, covering 128 locations worldwide, including ExecuJet’s FBOs, EDEIS’s network, and partner FBOs.
Transforming Regional Airports
Through its partnership with Luxaviation, EDEIS will maintain its role as a connector between territories and stakeholders. This will showcase the benefits of integrating regional mobility into the environment. Clean, sustainable regional air transport is on the horizon, positioning regional airports as key players. They will once again become economic drivers, central to cities, and vital for regional development, like in the early days of air travel.
Today, 85% of European air traffic comes from just 43 of 2,570 airports. Additionally, 90% of the population travels 120 km to board an aircraft.
Olivier Galzi, EDEIS VP of Strategy and Development, said: “This partnership with Luxaviation aims to drive the future of sustainable inter-regional mobility.”
Christophe Lapierre, Luxaviation Chief Strategy Officer, adds: “We strongly believe in the synergy between business aviation and early-stage Advanced Air Mobility. Our partnership with EDEIS will realise this vision across regional airport networks. FBOs today and vertiports tomorrow will play a key enabling role.”
